Sandwich Generation

As I wrap my brain around the fact that my mother really can't take care of herself, I'm facing the reality that she needs to live with us. I've seen this time coming for the last couple years and I watched my mother-in-law go through the same thing 4 years ago. I drew this picture of a sandwich since it's what I've heard my generation called - kids moving out of the home while parent(s) move in. The emotional side of me wants to run and hide, knowing this isn't going to be easy - but the rational part of my brain knows that she can't do this for herself - AND it's not fair to her neighbors to have to do *my job*. I love my mom and I want her to have the chance to live the winter of her life in dignity. Now, if she'll just accept that she can't do this for herself.....

HI Welcome to EDM! I can relate to the sandwich generation comment. However it's even weirded for me as my Grandparents (grandpa turns 100 on 8-8-8) Ar actually doing better than my mom who is only 65! I'm lucky tht Dad is still with us and pretty healthy, one of my sisters still lives at home so she 'should' be a help to them.

Love the sandwich drawing too! your flickr is great! cheers! Stephanie

Great sandwich!
I see that part of my life coming up...son lives 2 1/2 hours away...daughter a junior in college 4 1/2 hours away...aging MIL.
...one day at a time.
Enough of that, welcome to EDM.
Oh, and nice blob!

Thanks for the comments and the welcome to EDM. I find myself needing to create even more than usual as I help my mom. She's always been very independent so this is tough for her - understandably. Thanks for letting me ramble about her! I know there's a lot of us dealing with this.

And here's to the emotional healing power of creating the things from our souls . . .

Thanks for sharing in the journey!

Welcome to EDM. My husband is part of that sandwich too... at one point before his mother died, we had her and our 3 year old that we were looking after at once. It was hard that is for sure!
